Recently, the R&D team consisting of Baosteel Engineering Shanghai Jiangnan Rolling Co., Ltd. and Baosteel Co., Ltd. Cold Rolling Plant and Equipment Department successfully developed the ultra-fine grinding technology for the surface repair of cold rolls. After adopting the new technology to repair the rolled and rolled strip products, the number of strip surface defects is effectively reduced, which saves the enterprise cost. The ultra-finished surface treatment technology developed this time can be ground through a series of special procedures to achieve a minimum roughness Ra of less than 0.01 μm on the surface of the rolled part. According to experts, the lowest roughness value of the surface of the rolled part means that the surface quality of the rolled part is improved.
Rolls repaired by superfine grinding technology
R&D background: Since 2015, in response to the quality defects on the surface of cold-rolled strip, in order to better serve the users, Jiangnan Rolling Co., Ltd. has set up a special research team based on communication and negotiation with Baosteel's cold rolling mill and equipment department. Intensive research began on the ultra-fine grinding technology for the surface repair of cold rolls. After many investigations and demonstrations, as well as repeated testing of the grinding process and belt selection, a stable super-fine grinding process was finally developed.
After the first-line trial of the production, the surface roughness maintenance performance of the cold-rolled work rolls was improved by more than 2 times, and the roll change rate was reduced by more than 50% due to the reduction of problems such as roll printing and chromatic aberration. At the same time, due to the reduction of the surface defects of strip steel, the monthly reduction is more than 50%, which can reduce the economic loss of 500,000 to 600,000 yuan per month.
Up to now, the number of ultra-fine grinding rolls used by Baosteel's cold rolling mills has increased from 3 to 4 pairs last year to around 15 pairs this year, and hopes to further increase the usage. In the next step, the research team plans to expand the practical application of ultra-fine grinding rolls on more rolling lines, providing process technology and on-site service support for Baosteel's units to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
