Japan finds green algae clock corrects genes or increases production efficiency

According to a report by the Japan News Service on July 30th, a research study released recently by Matsuo Takuya, professor of genomics at the University of Nagoya, Japan, and Professor Shi Pu, a professor of emeritus, showed that Chlorella as the main raw material of biofuels may have internal genes through the sun. Light corrects the bias of the biological clock. The research results have been published on the 30th of the "Summary of the American Academy of Sciences" (electronic version).

The research report pointed out that if we can use this property of the Chlorella gene to artificially control the chlorella circadian clock, it is expected to improve the fuel production efficiency.

According to reports, Matsuo Takuya and others learned about the circadian cycle of green algae based on their luminescence intensity after Chlamydomonas sp. When Chlamydomonas is irradiated with sunlight and other light, the protein produced by “ROCK 15”, one of the genes of the green algae clock, is rapidly degraded, and the bias of the green algae clock is corrected.
