Nanocellulose and starch based biodegradable plastic composites
Green Science Alliance Co., Ltd. (Chuanxi, Japan), a group company of Fuji Pigments Co., Ltd. (Chuanxi, Japan) announced on September 27 that it has created a manufacturing process that mixes nanocellulose with various thermoplastics.
Nanocellulose is derived from natural biomass resources such as trees, plants and waste wood and is therefore recyclable and biodegradable. It has a low coefficient of thermal expansion and is comparable to glass fiber, but its modulus of elasticity is higher than that of glass fiber. It is a hard, strong and strong material. This material shows the potential of automotive, aerospace, construction and other applications with a positive environmental impact.
At present, Greentech Alliance Co., Ltd. has mixed nanocellulose with various thermoplastics, such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polystyrene (PS), acrylonitrile. Butadiene styrene (ABS), polycarbonate (PC), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), polyamide 6 (PA6), polyvinyl alcohol (PVB). In addition, the company has recently successfully created a hybrid production process of nanocellulose and various biodegradable plastics, including polylactic acid (PLA), polybutylene adipate (PBAT), polybutyl succinate (PBS). , polycaprolactone, starch-based plastics, and biodegradable plastics produced by microorganisms such as polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA).
In the near future, the company's goal is to produce food trays and boxes, straws, cups and lids from this degradable plastic/nanocellulose composite. They also plan to apply supercritical foaming technology to make degradable plastic mold products lighter and stronger.
