In the external thread structure, the threaded connection and the strain gauge are installed at a longer distance, which has a positive influence on the weight measurement characteristics (such as hysteresis).

Therefore, for applications where accuracy and repeatability are critical, external threads should be used. For internal threads, it should be used as a non-critical side.

For a force sensor with a bolted internal thread, sufficient pressure must be applied to the sensor surface by the nut. There are two different ways to do this:
a. The force applied by the bolt connection is greater than the maximum force during operation
b. Install with the right torque

For sensors with external threads: a nut must be used in place. This is not necessary for pure static measurements. For tensile pressure measurement applications, HBM provides knees for all sensors, and if a knee is used in the installation, torque will not be applied to the sensor. If two knee eyes are used, the bending moment will not be applied.
