Iranian officials say Iraq is still exporting oil to EU countries outside of Britain and France

Iranian Minister of Petroleum Rostam. Gasemi said in Tehran on the 19th that Iran is still exporting oil to other EU member states except Britain and France, and has extended its oil supply contracts with some countries.

Gasem made the above statement to the press during his participation in the Iran International Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition. When asked if Iran would stop supplying oil to more EU countries, he said that Iran is concerned about developments and the EU’s approach is very important to Iran’s decision-making.

Gassem said that if the EU does not lift sanctions on Iranian oil exports, the international energy market and world energy security will be severely impacted. “We are waiting for the good news from the EU. The EU’s response to Iran during the next round of negotiations on the Iranian nuclear issue is crucial to the oil market.”

However, ** believes that as the EU embargo on Iranian oil will take effect two months later, companies in EU countries are unlikely to extend oil purchase contracts with Iran.

The EU decided in January this year to formally impose sanctions on Iranian oil exports. The move caused a strong reaction from the Iraqi side. Several lawmakers and government officials demanded that they stop supplying fuel to some EU countries. According to media reports, Iran has stopped exporting oil to Britain, France, Greece, Spain and Germany.

The oil industry is the lifeline of Iran's economy, and its export revenue accounts for more than 85% of Iran’s total income. As the second largest oil producer in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, Iran exports 2.6 million barrels of crude oil per day, of which about 20% goes to EU countries, mainly Italy, Spain and Greece.
