POSCO, the largest steel manufacturer in South Korea, has recently adopted the “order-supply for each ship†method to produce and supply ship plates for ships of various ship types and sizes.
On June 17, Posco announced that it had signed a package supply contract with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Ocean for the first time to produce and supply integral steel plates for a new 4400-TEU container ship. It is reported that the relevant personnel of Pohang Steel visited Daewoo Shipbuilding, persuaded the design department and procurement department of the shipyard, and tried to use the “bulk order-supply†method for each ship in the future, and finally successfully signed the contract with Daewoo Shipbuilding.
It is understood that current shipbuilding companies usually hand over the purchase list of one ship to different steel companies, which has a long delivery time and often wastes. Posco explained that “Dayu Shipbuilding uses a bulk order-supply approach that will increase the additional revenue of approximately 300 million won ($250,000) and reduce delivery time and distribution costs.â€
It is understood that in the second half of the year, Daewoo Shipbuilding special ships, marine engineering, and offshore wind power installation marine steel are expected to adopt this method.
