1. Pay attention to converter quality
RS485 and the computer are connected through the serial port, but some computers do not have a serial port (especially the converter), so generally we need to buy a serial converter. The quality of the converter is one of the factors causing communication failure. This should be paid special attention.
2. Pay attention to whether the communication distance is too long
The RS485 transmission distance can theoretically transmit 1200 meters, but in practical applications, some factors such as wire quality, installation environment, controller performance, etc. will affect the transmission distance. In order to ensure communication stability, the communication distance is generally required to be 500 to 800 meters. Within the above, it is necessary to consider installing a 485 repeater to extend the transmission distance.
3. About the use of passive converters
If RS485 is applied to the access security system, we recommend that you do not use passive converters here. Because passive switching communication quality is poor, communication distance is short, load capacity is poor, and there is no anti-interference ability, communication will be unstable. We recommend that you purchase a regular manufacturer's 485 converter, because these converters are generally rigorously tested, performance parameters are relatively stable, and compatibility is good.
